IR over IP

(FS-23 Only)

Operation of the on screen GUI is done using the supplied remote. IP versions of these comands can be sent from the driver. These commands are context sensitive, if you need left/right commands you can use the Rew/FFor commands, but only on that page. In addition, If the GUI is on the screen saver the first IR command will 'wake it up' but not execute the command.

A set of variables (GUI Page) allow you to know which page the GUI is currently on

Docking/Undocking Note:

Some iPort HW models including the IW4 take extra time to detect the docking/undocking of an iPod. It will take 30 seconds for the RTI driver to detect that the iPod has been removed. If the iPod is replaced back into the dock before the driver has detected it being undocked, it will take 2 minutes before the iPort interface becomes operational.

An IP controlled dock will notify the system when the status of the dock has changed (The Dock Status Variable) but it is not pollable so it will not be valid after the processor reboots until it has changed once.

IW5 Note:

Some IW5s were shipped from Sonance with the wrong version of iPort firmware. If your IW5 is running version 1.03, you need to update it using information found on the iPort website. Use the 'iPort Version' text variable to show which version of firmware your iPort is running.

Artwork:

Artwork passes between the iPod and the dock in two stages. A couple of seconds after a new tune starts there is a fast transfer of a low resolution version of the artwork. A few seconds later there is a second transfer of the higher resolution version. You will see the low resolution, fuzzy version of the artwork show up on the panel and be replaced by the clearer version. The dock will not respond to external commands while the transfer is going on so you may find that if you skip forward through a bunch of tracks, the dock may appear to 'ignore' the occasional command, depending on your timing.

A bug in the firmware of the iPod Classic causes it to crash after a couple of hundred artwork accesses, the iPort has an option on it's on screen menu to turn artwork requests off.
