This driver provides control and feedback for JVC DLA-RSx (D-ILA) projectors through serial or ethernet connections. The driver will support a large number of projectors and as such may have commands for features your projector does not support.

The serial connector is a male on the projector, so it requires a female-to-female null modem adapter if using the standard RTI adapter.

Connection Settings

You have to select either the Network or Serial connection from the Connection Type pull down menu. Then it will allow you to either select the serial port or enter the IP address of the projector.

Variables

Power State

The power state has a text variable that will tell you its state and a large number of booleans for maximum flexibility. It has booleans for Power On and Standby, it also has booleans for when the projector is warming up and cooling down. It has additional booleans for 'Not On' (the state is anything except On) and 'Not Off'.

Commands

Commands are available for all the states listed under variables above. There are several more categories of commands but only those two have feedback.

Menu Control

The menu and other OSD info will not stay on the screen while the projector is being polled so the driver has to abandon feedback when using the menus. When using the menu and cursor keys the driver will do this automatically, resuming polling a minute after the last command is sent. In addition, you can stop the polling through the driver in case you want to control the projector via the IR remote. The Suspend command uses a parameter that can either stop polling for a minute and then automatically resume or can suspend polling indefinitely. Polling can always be resumed with the Resume command and a 'Suspended' variable is provided for testing or display.

The need for this was eliminated over several firmware releases in early 2014 so you may not need this function, but it remains in the driver.

Input

Commands are defined for several types of inputs but there are several 'extra' commands for any future models that may be released. Additionally, there are three forms of Raw Input – Remote Emulation, Picture Mode Raw, and Raw Commands.

Remote Emulation

Several of the commands in the driver use the Remote Emulation commands. A separate 'Raw' version of that command is available. The commands are available for on JVC's website. To use a command, go to the Remote Control Emulation Commands section of the RS-232C, LAN and Infrared Remote Control Guide (in version 1.4 it's on page 7). The far-right column has a two-digit hex number that you can enter the raw command parameter. The default value is 2E (which activates the projector’s menu).

Picture Mode Raw

Several commands within the driver pertaining to picture / image settings can be accessed via raw commands. These commands can be executed in the same manner as those in Remote Emulation. A reference document can be found on JVC’s website within the RS-232C, LAN and Infrared Remote Control Guide (in version 1.4, page 7). Its default input is 00.

Network Password

On newer models of the JVC-DLA (2022 or newer), setting a network password is required for the driver to function. To do this, enable the network password in Apex under the Connection Settings category. Once this is done, a new text field will appear that will allow you to enter the network password from the projector.

Raw Commands

Raw Commands are available through the driver. A list of commands can be found on JVC’s website within the D-ILA Projector External Communication Specification document. To use a command, enter the corresponding ASCII letters into the left column in Apex and then enter the corresponding ASCII parameter into the right column in Apex. The default command is PW 1 (Power On).
