Symetrix Fader Scaler
By: John Marsh
Updated: July 17, 2026
Version: 2.0
This driver converts up to 99 Fader or General Level values from the Symetrix driver into a format that is more user friendly.
The Symetrix driver returns values like -72 to +12 or 0 to 65535, if you display the feedback as text. This will confuse most users, as the numbers in dB don't mean much to your average Joe and neither does a 16 bit value.
This driver converts these confusing values into three more readable formats.
1 - Zero to ten range with one decimal place
2 - Percentage, zero to one hundred
3 - 'Spinal Tap' range, Zero to Eleven, because eleven is obviously louder than ten! Spinal Tap - "These go to eleven...."
This driver was developed for a project that used a couple of Symetrix Prism units with Powersoft amps using Dante to give audio over about 50 rooms. Hopefully someone else will find it useful.
The driver is licence free and totally free to use. Drop me a line if you have any feedback or bugs.
Symetrix Fader Scaler.
This driver is used to convert the values returned by the Symetrix Fader (-72 to 12) or from a General Level Control (0 to 65535) to a value that is more easily understood by the end user. There are three different scales that can be used. 0 to 10 with one decimal place, Percentage 0% – 100% and a special ‘Spinal Tap’ scale that goes from 0 -11. Everyone knows 11 is louder than 10!
Driver configuration:
First you need to install and configure your Symetrix driver with the faders and general level controls you need to use in your project.
Set the number of faders or general level controls whose values you need to scale and display in a readable format. The maximum is 99 faders or level controls.
For each fader or general level control, use the selection tool to choose the fader or level control you need to subscribe to from the Symetrix driver. Then add a descriptive name for each of the variables so you can easily identify it in your project. Select if the control is a fader or a General Level control using the dropdown selection. Faders return a value in dB between -72 and +12. A General Level control returns a value between 0 and 65535.
Driver Variables:
0-10 This scale is a basic zero to ten with one decimal place for each fader.
Percentage This is a zero to one hundred scale foe each fader.
Spinal Tap This is a zero to eleven scale with one decimal place, because 11 is more than 10.
Version History:
2.0 June 2024: Added General Level controls as these work better with sliders if you need to have linear control of volume rather than Log scale.
