Global Cache IR and Serial
By: John Frost
Updated: Jan. 5, 2026
Version: 1.2
This driver simplifies use of the Global Cache iTach Flex series and similar interface devices for up to 200 IR or Serial Commands. Commands are separated into 4 groups of 50 for ease of use. Allows for example, Group 1 for a TV, Group 2 for a Apple TV. This driver has been tested using infrared (IR) output and RS232 output. It will also send RS232 outputs using generic IP to RS232 devices. The driver may be downloaded from this website and will operate for a trial period of 1 hour from processor reboot or project transfer.

Sending IR & Serial Commands via Global Cache iTach to IR devices, and output via IP to RS232 Serial devices
This driver is for the Global Cache iTach Flex. This driver has been tested using IR output and RS232 output. It will also send RS232 outputs using generic IP to RS232 devices.
Release History
1.0 Jan 2020 Initial release of the driver
1.1 Mar 2020 Improved options for serial output. Can send ASCII as entered or space separated Hex strings which will be converted to ASCII before sending.
1.2 Mar 2022 Increased capacity from 66 to 200 IR/Serial Commands. Separated into 4 groups of 50 for ease of use. Allows for example, Group 1 for a TV, Group 2 for a Apple TV.
HTTP Settings
HTTP Address and Port
This is the IP address of the target Global Cache device.
HTTP Port - by default the Global Cache uses port 4998 for IR, 4999 for Serial. The driver can be configured to use a different port. In particular generic IP to RS232/RS485 devices can be used.
Output Type
Choose from:
IR Codes: to send Global Cache or Global Cache Compressed IR strings, eg. sendir,1:1,6,37825,1,1,341,168,22,21BB,22,63CBBBBBBCCBBCCBCBBBBBBCBCCCCC,22,1635,341,85,22,3642E,22,3700
Serial Hex: to send ‘space’ separated hex strings. These command strings will be converted to ASCII by the driver, eg. 68 80 02 02 07 0B FE
Serial ASCII: to send a normal text string, eg Hello World
License Credentials
License Key
A valid License Key is required and is provided by The Home Automation Co. after payment of the license fee.
The driver will operate for 60 minutes for the purpose of trialling the driver prior to license purchase.
System Variable “License Variable” “Status” will show whether not a valid license key has been entered.
GC Codes
Note about GC Codes count - The code count limit is 200 codes.
IR 1 Name
A convenient name to identify the GC command string within Integration Designer. If entering a large number of Name/String pairs we suggest ordering the Names alphabetically for ease of use when selecting in Integration Designer.
IR 1 String
The GC command string to be sent via this driver. Due to Integration Designer properties window display length, we recommend using the GC Compressed format for IR commands. This is optionally generated by iLearn (Global Cache’s learner).
All command strings are terminated with CR LF by the driver.
Driver Notes
This driver assumes that the Global iTach Flex device has been configured directly using the Global Cache methods. Hence command strings include the required GC output port – see default value IR 1 String and IR 2 String as examples of IR and RS232 strings respectively.

This license removes the 1 hour time limit for the customer’s nominated RTI XP processor. Please enter XP processor MAC address into the “Order notes” field on the Checkout Page. The license key for that processor will then be supplied via email.
