Rain Bird Wi-Fi Irrigation
By: Joe Liggero
Updated: Sept. 10, 2026
Version: 1.0
Rain Bird Wi-Fi Irrigation brings a Rain Bird LNK or LNK2 WiFi irrigation controller into RTI with local, cloud-free control. The processor talks to the controller's WiFi module directly on your own network, encrypted. There is no Rain Bird cloud account and no third-party bridge, so control stays fast and keeps working if the internet drops.
Features:
- Start and stop any zone, with a manual run time
- Set and clear a rain delay, with live rain-delay-days feedback
- Live status: which zone is watering, rain-sensor wet or dry, and per-zone running state
- Auto-detects the controller's model, serial, and real zone count on connect, so you only see the zones you actually have
- Per-zone name and state feedback for your panels, plus events (zone started, zone finished, rain delay set) to trigger any RTI macro
- A held-open, reused connection for fast response that self-heals after a network blip
Works with the LNK or LNK2 WiFi module on the ESP-TM2, ESP-Me, ESP-RZXe, ESP-ME3, and LXME2. Our development and test hardware is the ESP-TM2. One controller per driver instance; one license per processor.
The download includes a ready-made Integration Designer sample project with a working irrigation page for iPad and iPhone.
A free 120-minute trial, locked to your processor, lets you prove it on your own controller first. Purchase and instant license delivery: https://customcontroldrivers.com/drivers/rain-bird-wifi
Rain Bird Wi-Fi Irrigation v1.0
Local, cloud-free control of a Rain Bird irrigation controller from RTI. The driver talks directly to the Rain Bird LNK or LNK2 WiFi module on your network. No Rain Bird cloud account is used, so there is nothing to rate-limit and no vendor quota to exhaust.
Supports the Rain Bird WiFi controller family (ESP-TM2, ESP-Me, ESP-ME3, ESP-RZXe, LXME2 and similar). The driver detects the model and the number of stations automatically.
What you can do
· See which station is watering, live
Run any station for a set number of minutes
Stop all watering
Set or clear a rain delay (in days)
Per-station run-duration spinners for one-touch "run this zone" buttons
Requirements
· A Rain Bird controller with an LNK or LNK2 WiFi module, set up and online in the Rain Bird app
The module on the same network as the RTI processor (give it a DHCP reservation so its address does not change)
The password you use to connect to this controller in the Rain Bird app
Setup
1. In the Rain Bird app, open Controller Settings, then Network Info, and note the controller IP address.
2. Confirm the password the Rain Bird app uses to connect to this controller, and enter it in the driver exactly as it is set in the app.
3. In the driver properties, enter the IP Address and the Controller Password.
4. Name each station under Zone Naming. The name you enter (for example Front Lawn) appears by that name in the Run Zone and Stop Zone command pickers, tied to its station number. Name every station you want to control.
You add one Rain Bird Controller device and configure everything, including the zones, inside it. Zone numbers map to the controller station numbers (Zone 1 = station 1). The driver connects, reads the model and station list, and begins reporting state.
Important: password lockout
The controller locks itself for 20 minutes after five wrong password attempts. Enter the password carefully. If the driver reports that the password was rejected, fix it in the driver properties and then use Force Reconnect. The driver deliberately stops after a rejected password so it cannot cause a lockout on its own. If a lockout does occur (for example from another app), the driver waits it out and retries automatically.
Commands
· Run Zone: pick a station by its configured name and run it for a number of minutes. The run always has a set duration, so the controller stops the valve on its own when the time is up.
Run Zone With Set Duration: run a station using its duration-spinner value.
Stop All Zones: stop all watering. The controller has no per-zone stop, so Stop Zone also stops all watering.
Set Rain Delay: suspend automatic watering for a number of days. Set Rain Delay 0, or Clear Rain Delay, removes it.
Set Zone Duration, Zone Duration Up, Zone Duration Down: adjust a station duration spinner.
Force Reconnect, Refresh State, Clear Cache: connection and state helpers.
Feedback
Connection State, Status Text, Detected Model, Serial Number, Zones Detected, Running Zone, Running Zone Name, Any Zone Running, Rain Delay Days, Rain Delay Active, Rain Sensor Active, and per-station Available, Display Name, and Running variables. Each station also fires Started and Stopped events.
Trial and licensing
A 120-minute trial is included so you can evaluate the driver on your own hardware before purchase. Paste your licence key in the driver properties to unlock permanent use. The licence is tied to the processor.
Diagnostics
Driver messages appear in the processor XP Diagnostics System Log. Set Debug Level to Low for normal use (the driver still logs errors and a state heartbeat every 60 seconds at Low), or Medium or High while troubleshooting. The Status Text and Last Error variables always reflect the current state on the panel.

This driver requires a license, sold by Custom Control Drivers LLC. A free 120-minute trial runs on any processor so you can confirm it on your own controller before buying. The license is $79, locked to one processor's MAC address, and covers unlimited driver instances on that processor.
