Kramer VP-440X Presentation Switcher

Two-way RTI control of the Kramer VP-440X 18G 4K60 4:4:4 presentation switcher/scaler over Kramer's documented Protocol 3000 command set, via the network (TCP/IP) or RS-232. Four HDMI inputs and a PC (VGA) input switch to simultaneous scaled HDMI and HDBaseT outputs, with full two-way feedback so your touch panel always shows the true state of the switcher - including changes made at the front panel, because the driver polls the device continuously.

Key Features

  • Network or RS-232: TCP/IP (Kramer Protocol 3000, default port 5000) or serial (115200 8N1, the VP-440X CONTROL port's fixed rate), selectable in Driver Properties.
  • Input switching: discrete HDMI 1-4 and PC (VGA) select with active-state feedback, plus a labelled Select Input picker.
  • Power: standby on / off / toggle with live power-state feedback, plus CEC Display Power On/Off through the connected output.
  • Audio: output volume up/down and absolute set (0-100), mute on/off/toggle with feedback.
  • Video: video mute, freeze, Image Proportion (Over Scan / Full / Best Fit / Pan Scan / Letter Box / Under 2 / Under 1), and Output Resolution (Native through 4K60, 30 modes).
  • System: front-panel lock/unlock, refresh state, soft reset and factory reset.
  • Live feedback: current input, input name, power, audio/video mute, freeze, image proportion, output resolution and per-output (HDMI/HDBaseT) connected status as system variables, plus macro-triggerable events (Input Changed, Powered On/Off, Volume Changed, Muted/Unmuted).
  • Diagnostics: built-in telnet console (port 12544) for on-site commissioning, and optional cloud logging for remote support.

Requirements

  • RTI XP processor (RTI runtime 24 / IDesign 11.4 or later).
  • Kramer VP-440X 18G 4K60 4:4:4 presentation switcher/scaler.
  • For Network control: the switcher on a static IP reachable by the processor (factory default 192.168.1.39). For RS-232: a processor serial port wired to the switcher's rear CONTROL port (not the DATA port, which is an RS-232 pass-through to the HDBaseT receiver).

How It Works

Add the driver in IDesign and choose Network or Serial in Driver Properties. On deploy the driver links to the switcher and populates the current input, power, audio and video state automatically. Because the driver polls the device continuously, front-panel changes update the interface too. Drop the Input 1-5 and Power tags on buttons for instant control with active-state highlight, and bind a label to Current Input Name. A SampleFile.apex demo project and a branded PDF integration note are included in the download.

Kramer VP-440X Control Driver

Version 0.2 – Smart Home Programming

Two-way control of the Kramer VP-440X 4K60 presentation switcher/scaler over Kramer Protocol 3000, via RS-232 or the network (TCP/IP).

Setup

1. Add the driver and open Driver Properties.

2. Set Connection Type:

- Serial (RS-232) – wire a processor serial port to the VP-440X rear CONTROL port. Select that port under Serial Port. Baud is 115200 8N1 (the VP-440X CONTROL port is fixed at 115200 – leave Baud at 115200 unless your unit differs). Use the CONTROL port, NOT the DATA port (DATA is an RS-232 pass-through to the HDBaseT receiver).

- Network (TCP/IP) – enter the VP-440X IP Address (factory default 192.168.1.39). Protocol 3000 port is 5000.

3. Enter the Licence Key, or leave blank to run the 120-minute trial.

What it controls

- Power – On / Off (Standby) / Toggle. Display Power On/Off sends CEC to the connected display.

- Input switching – HDMI 1-4 and PC (VGA). Select Input, or the discrete Select HDMI 1..4 / Select PC buttons.

- Audio – Volume Up/Down, Set Volume (0-100), Mute On/Off/Toggle.

- Video – Video Mute, Freeze, Image Proportion (Over Scan / Full / Best Fit / Pan Scan / Letter Box / Under 2 / Under 1), Output Resolution (Native through 4K60).

- System – Front Panel Lock, Refresh State, Reset, Factory Reset.

Feedback (system variables)

Connected, Power / Power State, Current Input (+ per-input Selected booleans), Output Volume, Audio Muted, Video Muted, Frozen, Image Proportion, Output Resolution, HDMI / HDBaseT Output Connected, Front Panel Locked, Device Model / Firmware / Serial Number. The driver polls the device so the interface tracks changes made at the front panel too.

Tags (drag-and-drop autoprogramming)

Command tags: Power On, Power Off, Power, Input 1-5, Volume Up, Volume Down, Mute On, Mute Off, Mute, Video Mute On/Off, Video Mute. Matching feedback variables carry the same tags so a single tag drop wires both the button and its feedback.

Events

Connected / Disconnected, Power On / Off, Input Changed, Volume Changed, Audio Muted / Unmuted, Video Muted / Unmuted, Freeze On / Off, plus trial/licence events.

Licensing

The driver runs fully for a 120-minute trial. After that, control commands are gated until a licence key is entered (feedback keeps working). The key is generated from this processor's MAC address – see the MAC For Key system variable, and contact Smart Home Programming for a key.

Support

Smart Home Programming – david@smarthomeprogramming.com.au – https://smarthomeprogramming.com.au

This driver requires a licence key tied to your RTI processor's MAC address.

  • Trial: 120-minute fully functional trial - no key required
  • Purchase: Visit https://smarthomeprogramming.com.au/store/ to buy a licence
  • Licence is per-processor - one key per XP processor

To license: read the MAC For Key system variable in the driver, buy a key for that MAC at smarthomeprogramming.com.au/store, and paste it into the Licence Key setting. Feedback keeps working after the trial; only control commands are gated.
