AVGear AVG-HD41-MV
Full two-way RS-232 control for the AVGear AVG-HD41-MV 4K 4x1 HDMI seamless multiview switcher — power, all five multiview layouts, per-window input routing, full-screen source selection, and output audio, all with polled feedback and a built-in scaling web dashboard. Distributed in Australia by Ovation AV, who is also RTI's Australian distributor.
Key Features
- Five multiview layouts: Single, PIP, PBP, Triple, and Quad — switch layouts from a button or a macro picker, with live feedback of the active mode.
- Per-window input routing: Route any of the 4 HDMI inputs to any of the 4 on-screen windows — 16 standard command tags that drag straight onto a button, each with matching active-state feedback.
- Full-screen source select + auto-switch: Jump any input to full screen instantly, or let the switcher auto-switch to the last active source.
- PIP / PBP / Triple / Quad fine control: PIP position (4 corners plus user) and size, PBP/Triple/Quad mode and aspect ratio, window borders and border colour.
- Output audio control: Follow-window or any HDMI input as the audio source, plus volume and mute — all polled back to RTI.
- Output configuration: 14 output resolutions (4096x2160p60 down to 1024x768p60), HDCP mode, and per-input EDID (19 presets).
- Friendly input naming: Name each HDMI input once in Driver Properties and it carries through to every window, source button, audio label, and the web dashboard.

Requirements
- AVGear AVG-HD41-MV 4K 4x1 HDMI seamless multiview switcher with rear RS-232 control port
- RTI XP processor (runtime 24+) with a free serial port — 115200 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity, no flow control
- RS-232 wiring crossed to the processor (switcher TX to processor RX, switcher RX to processor TX, GND to GND) — see the driver Help for the confirmed RJ45 pinout
- Web dashboard (optional) requires a touch panel with Web Object support, or a browser with network access to the processor
How It Works
Wire the switcher's RS-232 port to the processor, pick the serial port in Driver Properties, and name your four HDMI inputs once. The driver then polls the switcher continuously and mirrors every layout, routing, source, audio, and output setting back into RTI system variables, so panel buttons and the web dashboard always show the switcher's real state. Command tags drag straight onto buttons for one-tap control with automatic feedback; multi-value settings such as resolution, EDID, PIP position, and aspect ratios are wired as macro picker functions. The optional on-processor web dashboard gives installers and end users a full scaling touch UI with a live preview of the current multiview layout.

Overview
Two-way RS-232 control for the AVGear AVG-HD41-MV 4K 4x1 HDMI seamless multiview switcher. Controls power, the five multiview layouts (Single / PIP / PBP / Triple / Quad), per-window input routing, full-screen source select with auto-switch, output audio source / volume / mute, output resolution / HDCP / EDID, PIP position and size, PBP / Triple / Quad mode and aspect, and window borders - all with polled two-way feedback and a built-in web control dashboard. Give each HDMI input a friendly name once and it carries through to every window, source button and audio label, on the panel and in the dashboard.
Connection (RS-232)
The switcher's rear RS-232 port is a 3-pin terminal labelled TX GND RX (GND is the middle pin). Serial settings are fixed at 115200 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity, no flow control. Wire the data lines CROSSED to the processor:
- Switcher TX -> processor RX
- Switcher RX -> processor TX
- Switcher GND -> processor GND
Select the processor serial port under Driver Properties; the driver applies 115200 automatically.
RTI XP serial over RJ45 (T568B patch lead - confirmed):
- Blue (pin 4) = GND -> switcher GND (middle pin)
- White/Blue (pin 5) = processor RX -> switcher TX
- Green (pin 6) = processor TX -> switcher RX
If the patch lead is wired to T568A, the transmit conductor is Orange (pin 6) rather than Green. A safe trick is to twist Green and Orange together for the TX line.
Setup checklist
1. Add the driver to your project and add it as a source in the controlling room.
2. Driver Properties -> Serial Settings: pick the processor Serial Port; leave Baud Rate at 115200.
3. Wire RS-232 per the pinout above.
4. Input Names: type a friendly name for HDMI 1-4 (e.g. Apple TV, Roku). Applied on driver load.
5. Leave Enable Polling on; note the Web Interface Port (default 9065) for the dashboard.
6. Paste your Licence Key and save (see Licensing).
COMMAND TAGS (drag straight onto a button)
Each command tag also carries matching feedback, so one drag wires both the button's macro and its active-state feedback.
Power: Power On, Power Off, Power (toggle).
Layouts: MV Single, MV PIP, MV PBP, MV Triple, MV Quad.
Full-screen source: Source HDMI 1, Source HDMI 2, Source HDMI 3, Source HDMI 4.
Auto switch: Auto Switch On, Auto Switch Off.
Window routing (16): Win 1 In 1 .. Win 1 In 4, Win 2 In 1 .. Win 2 In 4, Win 3 In 1 .. Win 3 In 4, Win 4 In 1 .. Win 4 In 4 (window to input).
Audio: Audio Follow, Audio HDMI 1, Audio HDMI 2, Audio HDMI 3, Audio HDMI 4, Volume Up, Volume Down, Mute On, Mute Off, Mute (toggle).
PIP position: PIP Top Left, PIP Top Right, PIP Bottom Left, PIP Bottom Right.
PICKER FUNCTIONS (call from a macro / the function-call UI - choose the value)
These take a parameter, so they are wired as macro steps rather than dragged as a one-tap tag:
- Set Multiview Layout (Single / PIP / PBP / Triple / Quad)
- Set Full-Screen Source (HDMI 1-4); Route Window to Input (window + input)
- Set Audio Source (Follow / HDMI 1-4); Set Volume (0-100)
- Set Output Resolution (14 modes, 4096x2160p60 down to 1024x768p60)
- Set Output HDCP (HDCP 1.4 / HDCP 2.2 / Off); Set Input EDID (19 presets)
- Set No-Signal Pattern (Black / Blue); Set Video Mode (Video / PC)
- PIP Position (5 positions incl. User); PIP Size (Small / Middle / Large / User)
- PBP Mode / PBP Aspect; Triple Mode / Triple Aspect; Quad Mode / Quad Aspect
- Border On / Border Off / Border Colour (window + colour)
SYSTEM FUNCTIONS
Refresh Status, Print Tag Reference, Remote Logging On / Off / Toggle. Diagnostics: Reboot Switcher, Factory Reset (caution), Probe Protocol.
FEEDBACK VARIABLES (bind to button state or text)
Status: Connected, Connection Status, Firmware, Device Model, Driver Version.
Power: Power (boolean), Power State Text.
Multiview: Multiview Mode, Multiview Mode Name, Layout = Single / PIP / PBP / Triple / Quad (booleans).
PIP / PBP / Triple / Quad: PIP Position (text), PIP Position Code, PIP = Top Left / Top Right / Bottom Left / Bottom Right (booleans), PIP Size, PBP Mode, PBP Aspect, Triple Mode, Triple Aspect, Quad Mode, Quad Aspect.
Input names: Input 1 Name .. Input 4 Name (the friendly names; bind to button text).
Full-screen source: Full-Screen Input, Full-Screen Input Name, Source = HDMI 1 .. 4 (booleans), Auto Switch On, Auto Switch Off.
Window routing: Window 1-4 Input, Window N = HDMI M (16 booleans).
Audio: Audio Source, Audio Source Name, Audio = Follow / HDMI 1 .. 4 (booleans), Audio Volume, Audio Muted, Audio Mute Text.
Output: Output Resolution, Output HDCP, Input EDID.
Licence: Licence Valid, Licence Status, Trial Active, Trial Expired, Trial Time Remaining, MAC For Key.
EVENTS (for macros)
CONNECTED, DISCONNECTED, POWER_ON, POWER_OFF, LAYOUT_CHANGED, ROUTING_CHANGED, SOURCE_CHANGED, AUDIO_MUTED, AUDIO_UNMUTED, TRIAL_WARNING, TRIAL_EXPIRED.
Web control dashboard
With Enable Web Interface on (default port 9065), the processor hosts a live multiview control page. Drop an RTI Web Object on a panel page and set its URL to http://[processor-ip]:9065/ , or open that address in a browser. The page scales to fill whatever size you give the Web Object - use it full screen, or as a half-height tile with two on one page. The left half is a live morphing preview of the multiview output; the right half is a swipeable set of tabs: Layout, Routing, Audio and Output. The cog opens theme and accent-colour settings. The friendly input names set in Driver Properties appear throughout.
Licensing
This driver is free. A no-cost sign-up key tied to your processor's MAC keeps control commands working after a 120-minute trial - feedback keeps running regardless, and the trial re-arms each time the driver loads. Find your MAC in the MAC For Key variable, create a free account and claim a key at smarthomeprogramming.com.au, then paste it into the Licence Key setting and save.
Diagnostics
A telnet debug console (Debug Settings, default port 12546) accepts: status, state, raw [command!], probe, poll, licence, mac. Remote Logging (Development) streams logs to the SHP dev-log server when enabled.
