Advanced Marantz AVR

Full two-way control of Marantz and Denon AV receivers from RTI, over IP (Telnet) or RS-232 serial. Marantz and Denon share the same control protocol, so one driver covers both ranges. The driver drives the main zone plus up to three additional zones, with live feedback on every command — power, volume, mute, input, surround mode, tone controls, FM tuner and Smart Selects — and ships with a built-in Web Object UI plus a browse menu for hardware remotes. Developed and verified against the Marantz Cinema 60.

Key Features

  • Multi-zone control: main zone plus Zone 2, Zone 3 and Zone 4, each with its own power, volume (up/down/set), mute and input-select functions and matching feedback variables.
  • Two-way feedback throughout: panels come up in sync with the receiver and track changes made at the front panel, on the handset or from the app.
  • Input selection: full source list including BD, DVD, TV, SAT/CBL, GAME, AUX1, AUX2, MPLAY, NET, BLUETOOTH, USB, CD, TUNER and PHONO.
  • Surround and tone control: surround-mode selection plus tone-control adjustment, with live state feedback.
  • Smart Selects: recall and store Smart Selects, with integrator-configurable names shown on the panel.
  • FM tuner control: tuner control alongside the standard source list.
  • Browse menu for hardware remotes: on-screen list covering Input Selection, Surround Mode, Zones, Tone Controls, Smart Selects and System Settings — each section can be shown or hidden per install.
  • Built-in Web Object UI: a browser control page served by the driver, with a collapsible card per zone.
  • Dual transport: IP over Telnet (port 23) or RS-232 serial at 9600 8N1, selected in Driver Properties.
  • Single-tag wiring: each command and its feedback share one RTI tag, so dragging a tag onto a button wires the action and its feedback in a single step.

Requirements

  • A Marantz or Denon AV receiver supporting the standard Marantz/Denon control protocol.
  • RTI XP processor (runtime 24+, software 11.4+, Integration Designer 11.4+).
  • For IP: the receiver's IP address, with General > Network > Network Control set to Always On. Port 23 (Telnet) is the default and should not be changed.
  • For serial: a spare processor RS-232 port wired to the receiver with a straight-through (not null-modem) DB-9 cable, 9600 8N1.

How It Works

Choose IP or RS-232 in Driver Properties and enter the connection details. On load, the driver reads back the receiver's current state — power, volume, mute, input, surround mode and per-zone status — so panels and the Web Object come up already in sync. Zone 3 is shown by default; Zone 4 is off by default and should only be enabled where the receiver actually has a fourth protocol zone, since zone availability varies by model. Browse-menu sections and Smart Select names are configurable per install, so the same driver suits a single-room system or a full multi-zone install without extra programming.

Advanced Marantz AVR Control Driver v1.29

Smart Home Programming | support@smarthomeprogramming.com.au

Overview

This driver provides full two-way control of Marantz (and Denon) AV receivers over IP (Telnet) or RS-232 serial. The Marantz and Denon control protocol is shared, so the same commands work across the range.

Tested model: This driver was developed and verified against the Marantz Cinema 60. It is expected to work on other Marantz/Denon AV receivers using the same control protocol; please verify zone availability against your specific model (see Multi-Zone below).

Connection - IP

1. In the receiver's setup menu: General > Network > Network Control > set to Always On

2. Set Connection Type to IP / Network

3. Enter the unit's IP address (find it in Setup > Network > Information)

4. Port defaults to 23 (Telnet) - do not change

Connection - RS-232

1. Set Connection Type to RS-232 Serial

2. Select the serial port connected to the unit

3. Settings are fixed: 9600 baud, 8N1, no flow control

4. Use a straight-through (not null modem) DB-9 cable

Browse Menu

The browse menu provides access to Input Selection, Surround Mode, Zone 2 / Zone 3 / Zone 4 controls, Tone Controls, Smart Selects, and System Settings.

Each section can be shown or hidden in Driver Configuration > Browse Menu.

Multi-Zone (Zone 2 / Zone 3 / Zone 4)

Each zone has its own Power, Volume (up/down/set), Mute and Input-select functions and feedback variables, and its own collapsible card in the Web Object UI.

Zone availability depends on the receiver model: Zone 2 and Zone 3 are supported on most multi-zone Marantz/Denon AV receivers; a 4th protocol zone (Zone 4) only exists on certain models.

Show Zone 3 is enabled by default. Show Zone 4 is OFF by default - tick it in Driver Configuration > Browse Menu only if your receiver actually has a 4th zone (this also reveals the Zone 4 card in the Web Object).

Smart Selects

Configure Smart Select names in Driver Configuration > Smart Selects.

To store a Smart Select: set up your desired source/mode, then use Store Smart Select N function.

Input Codes

Common codes: BD, DVD, TV, SAT/CBL, GAME, AUX1, AUX2, MPLAY, NET, BLUETOOTH, USB, CD, TUNER, PHONO

Licensing

This driver includes a 120-minute trial. To purchase a licence key:

1. Open a telnet connection to the debug port (default 12514)

2. Type mac and press Enter to get your unique key request

3. Email support@smarthomeprogramming.com.au with your key request

Debug Console

Connect via telnet to the processor IP on port 12514 (configurable). Type help for a list of commands.

Remote Debugging (cloud logging)

For remote support, the driver can stream its log to the Smart Home Programming cloud so we can diagnose a site without on-site access. It is OFF by default.

1. In Driver Configuration > Remote Logging (Development), tick Enable Remote Logging (leave Host/Port at their defaults).

2. Or enable it at runtime without redeploying: run the Remote Logging On function from a macro/button, or type rlog on in the debug console. rlog shows status, rlog test pushes a test line, rlog off disables it.

3. Set Debug Level to 2 (All Commands) to also capture every protocol TX/RX line.

4. Turn it off again when finished. Only enable when SHP asks.

Terms

This software is provided for use by licensed RTI integrators only. Redistribution or resale is prohibited without written permission from Smart Home Programming.

This driver requires a licence key tied to your RTI processor's MAC address.

  • Trial: 120-minute fully functional trial — no key required
  • Purchase: Visit https://smarthomeprogramming.com.au/store/ to buy a licence
  • Licence is per-processor — one key per XP processor
  • After the trial: control commands are blocked; feedback and monitoring keep running so the UI still shows live receiver state
