WattBox IP Series
By: Chad Shakespeare
Updated: Sept. 18, 2026
Version: 1.02
The WattBox IP Series driver provides direct local control and feedback for supported WattBox power conditioners from an RTI control system. It supports Telnet communication with compatible 150, 250, 800, and 900 series models and HTTP communication with compatible 300 and 700 series models.
During initial discovery, the driver identifies the WattBox model, communication method, outlet count, outlet names, metering support, and available device capabilities. It then dynamically generates RTI sources, functions, variables, and events for the discovered hardware. Only outlets added to the RTI project receive programming and runtime polling, keeping the driver interface efficient and uncluttered.
Supported features vary by model and may include:
- Individual outlet On, Off, and Reset control
- Whole-unit outlet reset
- Outlet state feedback and On/Off events
- Connection status and Connected/Disconnected events
- Whole-unit voltage, current, and power feedback
- Per-outlet metering where supported
- Voltage safety feedback and events
- Auto-reboot status and control
- Outlet switch-method feedback
- Front-panel LED status feedback
- Editable RTI-friendly outlet names
After initial discovery, outlet sources can be added or removed while programming offline. The driver stores a normalized model of the discovered WattBox and automatically rebuilds the RTI interface when source selections change. A physical connection is only required when initially discovering the unit or refreshing information after the WattBox configuration changes.
If the WattBox is replaced, Reset Discovery / Return to Setup clears the saved device model and generated programming while preserving the connection settings, allowing a clean discovery of the replacement unit.
The driver manages polling, heartbeat monitoring, reconnection, command pacing, and feedback updates automatically. Communication remains entirely local and does not require a cloud service.
WattBox IP Series
Version 1.02 - Installation and Programming Instructions
Overview
This driver connects an RTI system directly to a WattBox IP power conditioner. It discovers the model, outlet names, and available capabilities, then creates RTI sources, functions, variables, and events for the outlets used in the project. There are no fixed outlet slots to configure manually.
The normal workflow is: prepare the WattBox, enter its connection information, accept Hold Harmless, run discovery, add the required outlet sources, and test control and feedback.
Hold Harmless Agreement
This independent third-party driver is not developed, endorsed, supported, or certified by WattBox, Snap One, or Remote Technologies Incorporated (RTI). It is provided “AS IS” without warranty. By enabling Hold Harmless, the installer accepts responsibility and risk for its installation and use. Discovery and runtime communication remain disabled until Hold Harmless is enabled.
System Requirements
RTI Integration Designer 11.4 or newer and a compatible RTI processor.
A supported WattBox reachable by Integration Designer and the RTI processor.
The WattBox IP address, username, and password.
Telnet access for supported 150, 250, 800, and 900 series models, or HTTP access for supported 300 and 700 series models. SSH is not used.
Prepare the WattBox
1. Confirm the WattBox is online and controllable from its normal management interface.
2. Assign it a reserved or static IP address.
3. Confirm the username and password.
4. Give each outlet a clear name in the WattBox interface. Discovery imports these names.
5. Confirm the required local service is enabled and reachable: Telnet for 150, 250, 800, and 900 series units, or HTTP for 300 and 700 series units.
Add and Configure the Driver
1. Add WattBox IP Series from the Drivers tab. The permanent WattBox Main source appears.
2. Enter the WattBox IP Address, Username, and Password in Driver Configuration.
3. Leave Connection Type set to Auto Detect for normal installation. Force Telnet or HTTP only when troubleshooting.
4. Read and enable Hold Harmless.
5. Open the driver menu and run 1. Connect / Discover WattBox.
Discover the WattBox
Discovery identifies the model and connection type, reads the outlet count and names, checks available power and status feedback, and creates the available RTI sources. Setup Status shows the detected outlet count and how many outlet sources are used in the project.
Run discovery again after replacing the WattBox, changing models, renaming outlets in the WattBox interface, or changing its outlet configuration. Unsupported capabilities are omitted.
Add Outlet Sources
After discovery, each outlet is available under Add To Existing Driver. Add only the outlets required by the project. WattBox Main remains available for whole-unit feedback and commands.
Outlet identity is based on its physical outlet number. Editing an Outlet Friendly Name changes how the source appears in Integration Designer without changing its identity. Adding or deleting an outlet source automatically rebuilds the interface so programming and polling exist only for sources in use.
Offline Programming and Replacing a WattBox
After the first successful discovery, the WattBox does not need to be online while the RTI project is programmed. You can add or remove discovered outlet sources in Integration Designer, and the driver rebuilds the required programming from its saved device information.
This remains valid as long as the same WattBox is installed and its outlet configuration has not changed.
If the WattBox is replaced with a different unit, run Reset Discovery / Return to Setup, verify the connection settings, and then run 1. Connect / Discover WattBox. This creates a clean configuration for the replacement unit and avoids carrying old outlet information into the new installation.
Driver Sync
Driver Sync is a local Integration Designer refresh. It does not reconnect to or rediscover the WattBox. It rebuilds the RTI interface from saved discovery information and current source selections.
Run 2. Driver Syncif Integration Designer does not immediately show a source or friendly-name change, or if generated programming appears out of sync.
Controls and Feedback
Outlet sources: Power On, Power Off, Reset, outlet status, and On or Off events. Only supported items are generated.
WattBox Main: connection status, available whole-unit electrical and voltage feedback, supported auto-reboot control, Reset All Outlets, and supported whole-unit commands.
HTTP 300 and 700 series units may additionally report outlet switch method, front-panel LED state, safe-voltage state, and outlet auto-reboot control. Outlet Switch Method uses 0 for Disabled, 1 for Normal, and 2 for Reset Only.
Runtime Operation
After the project is loaded, the driver starts only the connection type selected during discovery. It monitors connection state, refreshes outlet status, and updates RTI feedback when values change. Power polling is limited to outlet sources used in the project. Heartbeat and reconnection are automatic.
Reset Discovery
Reset Discovery / Return to Setupclears saved discovery and generated outlet programming while preserving the IP address, username, password, connection selection, and normal settings. Use it when moving to another WattBox or intentionally starting over, then run discovery again.
Driver Updates
After installing an update, confirm the detected model and outlet sources. If the WattBox is temporarily unavailable, the driver can rebuild from saved discovery information. Run discovery when available if the model, names, or capabilities changed.
Logging
Leave Debug Level at None, Raw Rx Data Print disabled, and Heartbeat Print disabled during normal use. If support requests a temporary log, enable only the requested option and turn it off when testing is complete.
Troubleshooting
Discovery fails: confirm Hold Harmless is enabled, the address and credentials are correct, and the WattBox is reachable. Confirm the appropriate Telnet or HTTP service is available.
Auto Detect fails: select the connection type matching the WattBox series and discover again. SSH is not supported.
Outlet is missing: confirm the detected outlet count, add the outlet through Add To Existing Driver, and run Driver Sync if needed.
Outlet name is wrong: edit Outlet Friendly Name. Rediscover if the name was changed on the WattBox itself.
Function or feedback is missing: confirm the outlet source is added. Only capabilities reported by the detected model and connection type are generated.
Project moved to another WattBox: run Reset Discovery / Return to Setup, enter the new connection information, and discover again.
Installer Completion Checklist
The WattBox has a reserved or static address and valid credentials.
Hold Harmless is accepted and discovery reports the expected model and outlet count.
Only required outlet sources are added and friendly names are clear.
Power, Reset, connection feedback, and supported metering were tested.
The project was loaded to the processor and reconnection was verified.
