The Caseta LEAPv2 driver provides direct local control and feedback for Lutron Caseta Smart Bridge systems from an RTI control system. It uses Lutron’s authenticated LEAP protocol for secure local communication and does not require a cloud service.

During initial setup, the driver discovers available Caseta bridges, completes LEAP pairing, and reads the bridge’s devices, rooms, scenes, and supported capabilities. It then dynamically generates RTI sources, functions, variables, and events for the discovered system. Only device sources added to the RTI project receive programming and runtime routing, keeping the driver interface efficient and uncluttered.

Supported features may include:

  • Light and switch On, Off, and Toggle control
  • Dimmer level control with Raise, Lower, and Stop
  • Fan level and discrete speed control
  • Pico Press, Release, and Long Hold events
  • Caseta scene execution
  • Occupancy status with Occupied and Unoccupied events
  • Shade control and position feedback where supported
  • Device names and room information
  • Light, fan, shade, and occupancy feedback
  • Connection status with Connected and Disconnected events
  • Dynamic RTI auto-programming tags

After initial discovery, device sources can be added or removed while programming offline. The driver stores a normalized model of the Caseta system and automatically rebuilds the RTI interface when source selections change. A bridge connection is required only for initial pairing and discovery or when refreshing information after the Caseta configuration changes.

Caseta LEAP (Caseta Only)

Installation and Programming Instructions

Overview

This driver provides native Lutron LEAP integration for Caseta Smart Bridge systems in RTI Integration Designer. Integration Designer connects directly to the Caseta bridge, stores the LEAP pairing credentials, reads the current Caseta system, and generates the RTI sources, functions, variables, and events for the devices actually discovered.

The installer setup flow is completed from Driver Configuration. Accept the Hold Harmless Agreement, select or enter the Caseta bridge address, and run Connect to Caseta System. The driver pairs when needed, discovers the Caseta system, and creates the available RTI sources and programming interface.

Upgrade compatibility: only an existing Caseta LEAP 2.0-series driver can be upgraded in place. Any other driver version is not a compatible upgrade source. Add this driver as new, complete pairing and configuration, and migrate the required programming.

Communication with the Caseta bridge is disabled until Accept Hold Harmless Agreement is enabled in Driver Properties.

System Requirements

RTI Integration Designer 11.4 or newer.

Compatible RTI processor running the minimum runtime specified by the driver manifest.

Lutron Caseta Smart Bridge or Smart Bridge PRO using native LEAP.

RTI processor and Caseta bridge on the same local network.

A DHCP reservation or static IP address for the Caseta bridge is strongly recommended. The driver can discover the bridge during Integration Designer setup, but the RTI processor uses the selected IP address.

Automatic Bridge Discovery

The driver searches for Caseta bridges on the local network using mDNS/Bonjour during initial Integration Designer setup. If exactly one compatible bridge is found, it is selected automatically. If more than one bridge is found, use the Discovered Bridge setting in Driver Properties to choose the correct system. If discovery fails or is unavailable, enter the bridge IP address manually. The selected address is used by pairing, discovery, and the RTI processor.

Bridge discovery is an installer setup feature and does not change the deployed processor address automatically. Use a DHCP reservation or static IP so the bridge address remains stable.

Adding the Driver

1. Add the Caseta LEAP driver from the Drivers tab in Integration Designer.

2. The hub source appears as Caseta Hub.

3. Open Driver Configuration. The driver searches the local network for Caseta bridges. If one bridge is found it is selected automatically. If multiple bridges are found, choose the correct bridge from Discovered Bridge. Enter the bridge IP address manually if discovery does not find it.

4. Read the Hold Harmless Agreement and enable Accept Hold Harmless Agreement.

5. From the driver menu, choose Connect to Caseta System.

Connect to Caseta System

Connect to Caseta System is the normal installer command for pairing and loading the current Caseta configuration. It uses the discovered bridge or the manually entered Bridge IP Address.

If no bridge IP is currently selected, the driver first searches for Caseta bridges. If one bridge is found it is selected automatically; if multiple bridges are found, select the correct bridge in Driver Configuration. Enter the address manually if discovery does not find it. If the driver is not paired, it starts the Caseta pairing process.

When prompted, press and release the physical pairing button on the Caseta bridge.

After pairing succeeds, the driver immediately connects over LEAP, reads the current Caseta system, saves the discovery model, and generates the RTI XML.

If the bridge is already paired, the pairing step is skipped and the driver immediately reads the current Caseta configuration.

Run Connect to Caseta System again whenever the Caseta project changes. It is the command that gets fresh information from Lutron.

Driver Sync

Driver Sync is a local Integration Designer refresh. It does not connect to the Caseta bridge and does not rediscover the Lutron system. It should rarely need used but feels out of sync press it.

Driver Sync checks which generated Caseta sources are currently added to the RTI workspace.

It regenerates Device Description, Configuration, Variables, Functions, and Events from the saved Caseta discovery model.

The driver automatically runs the same silent sync routine when a generated source is added to or deleted from the RTI workspace.

The manual Driver Sync command is a failsafe if Integration Designer does not refresh commands, variables, events, or source programming as expected.

A successful manual Driver Sync displays a completion message.

Offline Programming and Replacing a Caseta Bridge

After the first successful discovery, the Caseta bridge does not need to be online while the RTI project is programmed. You can add or remove previously discovered sources in Integration Designer, and the driver rebuilds the required programming from its saved Caseta device information.

This remains valid while the same Caseta bridge and device configuration are used.

If the bridge is replaced or a different Caseta system is used, run Reset Discovery / Return to Setup and Reset LEAP Authentication. Select or enter the replacement bridge address, then run Connect to Caseta System and complete pairing. This creates a clean configuration for the replacement system and prevents information from the previous bridge from being reused.

If an individual Caseta device is replaced, add and configure the replacement in the Lutron app, then run Connect to Caseta System again. Because the replacement may receive a different Lutron device identity, verify its RTI source and programming afterward.

Reset LEAP Authentication

Reset LEAP Authentication clears the saved Caseta pairing credentials. Use it when replacing the bridge, intentionally re-pairing, or troubleshooting invalid authentication. After resetting authentication, run Connect to Caseta System and complete the physical pairing process again.

Adding Generated Sources

After Connect to Caseta System completes, discovered Caseta sources are available under Add To Existing Driver in Integration Designer. Sources are grouped by Caseta room/area and use the friendly Lutron device names. Add only the sources required by the RTI project.

Adding or deleting a generated source automatically triggers the driver's local sync routine so the commands, variables, and events associated with the current workspace sources remain aligned.

Auto-Programming Templates

Lights: primary template Lutron Lighting; secondary template Lighting.

Shades: primary template Lutron Shades; secondary template Shades.

Supported Devices and Commands

Lights

Dimmers: Set Level, On, Off, Toggle, Raise, Lower, and Stop.

Switched loads: On, Off, and Toggle.

Set Level uses 0-100 percent. Dimming loads support direct level control and feedback.

Fans

Set Fan Level accepts 0-100 and maps the slider value to Caseta's discrete fan speeds.

Discrete speeds are Off, Low, Medium, Medium High, and High.

Fan On feedback is true at every running speed and false only when Off.

The High command also carries the Fan On auto-programming tag.

Pico Remotes

Pico button functions are created from the discovered LEAP button hrefs.

Available command actions are Press and Release, Press, Press and Hold, and Release.

Events include Press, Release, and Long Hold for every discovered Pico button.

Picos expose Name and Room identity variables.

Scenes

Discovered Caseta scenes are generated as Run Scene functions.

Scenes are command-only and do not provide feedback variables.

Occupancy Sensors

Occupancy sensors expose Name, Room, and Occupancy status.

Occupied and Unoccupied events are generated.

Sensors have no control functions and are not added as controllable device sources.

Before the first valid occupancy status is received, Occupancy Status is false.

Shades- Beta untested as don’t have one to test with!

Shade support includes Set Level, Raise, Lower, Stop, Open, Close, and Toggle where supported by the discovered Caseta zone.

Feedback includes Level, Open, Closed, and position-change events.

Shade support is generated from the LEAP information reported by the bridge. Verify operation against the installed shade hardware.

Runtime Operation

After the RTI project is loaded to the processor, the runtime connects to the configured Caseta bridge IP using the LEAP credentials saved during Integration Designer pairing. It restores subscriptions, reads initial device state, maintains the LEAP heartbeat, and reconnects automatically if communication is interrupted. Runtime communication remains disabled unless the Hold Harmless Agreement is accepted.

Troubleshooting

Cannot connect: confirm bridge power, network connectivity, the selected or manually configured IP address, and Hold Harmless acceptance. If necessary, clear the Bridge IP Address and run Connect to Caseta System again so the driver can retry bridge discovery.

Bridge is not paired: run Connect to Caseta System and complete the physical pairing prompt.

Devices, rooms, scenes, Picos, or occupancy sensors changed in the Lutron app: run Connect to Caseta System to obtain fresh Lutron data.

Commands, variables, events, or source programming do not refresh correctly in Integration Designer: run Driver Sync.

Bridge was replaced: run Reset LEAP Authentication, then run Connect to Caseta System. The driver will search again if no bridge IP is selected; manual IP entry remains available.

Do not share private LEAP certificates, keys, or pairing data in logs or screenshots.

Intentionally Unsupported

HVAC control.

Automatic IP recovery after the RTI project is loaded. Bridge discovery is an Integration Designer setup feature only.
